While the goddess Waset is well known, her male counterpart Was is obscure and recorded only in the 25th dynasty inscription of Mentemhet:
Waset headdress I fashioned individual vessels. I equiped Wes and Weset, Victorious Thebes, Mistress of Might, as an emanation /////
J. H. Breasted, Ancient Records of Egypt, Part Four, § 912
Waset is recognized by her headdress, consisting of a was-sceptre and a feather, the hieroglyph of the fourth Upper Egyptian nome.
